THE LONGEST SUSPENSION BRIDGE IN GERMANY

Are you ready for the longest suspension bridge in Germany? In May 2017, the superlative structure with a length of more than 450 meters was opened above the Rappboden Valley in the Harz Mountains. From the country house “Zu den Rothen Forellen” the bridge is a good 39 kilometers away and thus easily accessible by car.
Called the “Titan-RT,” the record-breaking bridge spans the Bode reservoir with a total length of exactly 458.5 meters. The filigree rope construction claws its way into the slate rock on both sides of the valley with the enormous tensile force of 947 tons. Four main suspension cables with a diameter of 65 mm form the backbone of the 120-ton structure. In addition, the bridge is kept in shape with two stabilizing ropes. They also ensure that the bridge holds its position at higher wind speeds.
The catwalk is a grating that provides a view down. In width, it offers 1.20 meters of space, and safety is ensured by a 1.30 meter high railing. There are also stainless steel side nets. So an adrenaline rush is almost guaranteed, but no one need be afraid. The special construction method makes it possible to take a walk across the suspension bridge without any other safety equipment. Sturdy shoes and a bit of courage are enough to experience a very special adventure at a height of 100 meters. Surrounded only by air, a little steel and breathtaking nature, the Rappboden valley can be seen here from a unique perspective. A visit is also worthwhile in the twilight hours, as discreet bridge lighting ensures safe crossing even after sunset.
Are you in the mood for even more adrenaline? No problem: Directly below the suspension rope bridge is another experience in a class of its own. The “Giga-Swing” is the most spectacular pendulum jump in Europe. Alone or in tandem, the bravest of all visitors to the Harz plunge into the depths. After an exclusive freefall experience, guests leisurely swing out before being pulled back onto the platform. And if you still haven’t had enough, you can venture down the “Megazipline”: Europe’s largest double rope slide, which overcomes a height difference of 120 meters over a length of one kilometer. The daredevils “fly over” the sports pool of the Wendefurth dam.
After a professional briefing and putting on the safety harness on the launch tower (of course, everything is controlled and monitored by trained staff), the fast-paced ride begins. The possible top speed is a breathtaking 85km/h – an adventure that no one will forget in a hurry…
